20.14: Document Specific Settings

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Window-Eyes supports the ability to save specific settings for specific documents using a per document setting feature called Document Specific Settings. When you open a document in Word that has specific document settings saved, those settings take effect immediately for that particular document. Currently, only field names and enhanced word support options can be saved per document. Additional settings will be able to be saved per document in future versions of Window-Eyes. The Document Specific Settings dialog can be accessed from the File menu in the Window-Eyes Voice Control Panel. This dialog contains the following components:

Applications List Box: This list box will list the applications that document specific settings are available for. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Browse Mode are supported.
Documents Multiselection List Box: This list box will contain the names of the documents that currently have specific settings associated with them. To select multiple items, arrow to the items you want to select, and press SPACE BAR.
File Name Edit Box: This edit box will be used to rename a document. It will only be available if only one document is selected.
Import Button: This button will allow settings to be imported. Imported settings will be contained in a filename with a .WED extension, and must accompany the matching document (or documents if multiple settings exist) in order for the settings to be loaded automatically.
Export Button: This button will allow settings to be exported. Exported settings will be saved with a .WED extension, and must accompany the matching document (or documents if multiple settings exist) for use in importing on other machines in order for the settings to be loaded automatically.
Rename Button: This button will allow the name of the settings to be renamed. Note that settings are matched with a document name. If settings are renamed, and the name no longer matches the name of the document they are associated with, the settings will not load until the document has been renamed to match the settings name.
Copy Button: This button will allow the settings for one document to be copied to another.
Delete Button: This button will allow the settings for a document to be removed.

Disabling Enhanced Word Support

On the off chance that you encounter a document that does not read correctly with Window-Eyes enhanced Word support, you have the option to revert back to the Window-Eyes 4.5 method of accessing the document. The last option in the global menu (Enhanced Support for Current Word document) is a per document setting, and will not be stored in any set file. If you have a document that you think is not reading correctly, you should first contact support to verify that the document is causing problems. If you find that the document is at fault, you can toggle the Window-Eyes enhanced Word support off for that specific document.
